For Colored Men: Finale

We have finally come to the end of  ‘For Colored Men’.

We would like to thank you all for reading, commenting and sharing the colors with us. There have been quite a lot of talking points raised in the posts this week and I hope we can look beyond the superficial and think about the causes, effects and influences all these persuasions, conditions, circumstances and issues may have on us or those around us. So use the comment boxes and speak your mind.

I’d like to say a big thank you to all the contributing writers for engaging us in full colors. They’ve all been amazing even if I do say so myself. It has been a joy to write, edit and read. From the confrontational to the pitiful, the tender to the unsympathetic, the controversial to the endearing, it has all been fascinating.

Thank you.

We return to our regular schedule tomorrow.

Oh, and you should know us by now, there’s more special stuff in the pipeline. Keep an eye out.

*

And now, Lets close out the series and have a little fun with it.

You have your dancing shoes on? Something cold to drink? Something ‘warm’ to lift your spirits?

Good.

Enjoy.

‘We Be Colored Men’ (By @TTXIII)

‘Colored Man’s Symphony’ by @TTXIII and @awizii
.
—————————————–
The world plays an unforgiving symphony
Expectations of normalcy in its every movement
Judgement, stereotyping and accusation in every note
The allegro, adagio, scherzo and rondo
They tell me all the things I must be and must know
Someone please play an errant note for me
Somebody play me a colored mans symphony
*
Play it for me, as judgement and expectations rain on me
Flavor my existence with a discordant melody
Make a beautiful cacophony that sounds like the world isn’t doing something right
Something to display us in all our colors between black and white
You say I’m obnoxious, perhaps you just don’t understand me
Its difficult trying to be me in this version of ordinary
*
We are not so different, you and I,
Droplets of simple pleasures are all we need to be alive
We cannot all be the same, Call a spade a spade
and stop digging a grave for me with those in your accusing eyes
Somebody play me a discordant melody
Somebody, play me a colored mans symphony
Something different, Something just for me
*
For in this search for our destiny there is much truth yet to unfold
Too many of our stories remain untold
From one end of the earth to the other, it makes one wonder
How many of us pasture on this earth’s surface with difficulty
Circumstance and secrets keep us from being truly free
All consuming, eating through every fibre of our being like gangrene
*
But a man should not cry, a man must always know why

A man should not complain. Only women and children express their pain.
Tuck in your skeletons and fight your demons just to make your way
These are all the things the four movements say to me
While the world plays its unforgiving symphony
Somebody, please play a discordant note for me
Somebody, anybody, play me a colored man’s symphony

I am Mr. Green, and I have been led astray, I am lost.
.
.
I am Mr. Red, and no matter what they say, I am not a Sex Addict.
.
.
I am Mr. Purple, and I will not let this sickness break me or my heart.
.
.
I am Mr. Yellow, and I am still looking for my own Omo pupa.
.
.
I am Mr. Blue, and I have seen that the devil is a 500 naira note.
.
.
I am Mr. White, and I have kept my virginity, my own way.
.
.
I am Mr. Orange, and I will not let my weight bring me down.
.
.
I am Mr. Grey, and No, I am not a pervert
.
.
I am Mr. Pink, and I will continue to live a lie because they will not understand.
.
.
And this is for colored men, who are struggling to define themselves in a world that expects them to be something else.
