How Hip-Hop inspires Business Thinking!
As a young lad, I tried my vocals on “spitting lines”! Like most kids my age back then, I believed I could do anything I set my mind out to do… so stitching a couple of well thought out yarns together, constantly delivering verses that would M.C ( Move Crowds!!!! ) & inspiring people into believing I was larger than life shouldn’t have been a problem?! Well, let’s just say I never had the talent to deliver, or else I for become Hip-Hop Star by now!
But I listened to quite a number of Hip-Hop Artiste both locally and internationally, religiously following them, especially the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye West. What I failed to pick up in Skill & Lyrical Stamina, I made up by succeeding in detecting a very obvious pattern – ” These guys visualized their Success before actually becoming Successful…” they told stories of Journeys that were not complete, but on going. You could sense the drive to succeed based on the stories they were telling. ( Remember – Get Rich or Die Trying by 50 Cent )
“Your Attitude determines Your Latitude, So I’m High as a MotherF**ker, Fly as a MotherF**ker!
One of my favorite lines by Kanye West never gets old to me. And in the same direction, our current mainstream acts especially Rick Ross, dish out the same recipe. What better way for him to visualize his drive to success than singing & acting out the life of an established Drug Baron.
Storytelling! Dreams are never given in Black & White, but as Riddles & Ciphers… Business Thinking as I call it is a process of making Dreams, Reality. We write our own stories and act our own scripts. It’s the same principle! Your Business Plan are the verses, some of us recite ours, others can make it up as we deliver. The same principles, don’t believe me? Try it out!
I’d like to close with a simple assignment, trace your favorite hip-hop act today back to their starting point & walk in their shoes mentally. Oh! What a Trip.
P.S – for the Ladies, Beyonce, Rihanna & even Lady Gaga can also be used for the same exercise, just in case! :P
Would be nice to get some interesting feedback on that exercise people… drop a comment!

I love Eminem, his lyrics are deep,he’s the perfect description of the phrase ‘be yourself’ and his style is just sleek and flalwless. One of my fav Eminem lines
“All those looking down on me I’m tearing down your balconies”
Using Fiaso as my case-study. I simply love his "The cool" album.
'HipHop saved my life' n 'Dumb it Down' just speak volume(s?)
