FOR THE PEOPLE

People-Holding-Hands

Phinc! : {finkk!} (Verb). To consider an end, develop an action plan and then develop a plan for executing those actions.

“People do not care how much you know till they know how much you care.” It must have been over 15 years since I first saw these words in an “our daily bread” devotional. Yet they are as clear in my mind as the ones I read yesterday.

People are the drivers of organization, society and family. If a family does not work or a society has challenges or an organization fails, it always points to people. People are the ones who develop systems so that things can flow in along course with little or no effort. People create and institute values so that results can be approached with the same mind and heart. It is always about people. If you dream to make impact then you must consider that managing people is probably as important as managing those ideas or projects.

“People do not care how much you know till they know how much you care.”

A lot of leaders have come to discover this truth. However, the different parameters with which they define success determine the way they go from here. Those who believe that success is in self-wealth acquisition do not bother about the people. Those who are focused on just getting the job done manipulate people. Those who want to make impact that will out live them care for people.  Do you care?

In the last week I have shared the same space with leaders who fit into two extremes. The ones who are passionate about making a difference and the ones who do not care how things turn out as long as they are personally sorted out. Whilst I was proud that a few good men still existed, I was disgusted by the many who deliberately run things down for the sake of self-gain. In my righteous anger, I found myself passing comments to anyone who cared to listen about how appalled I was. Little did I know that before the week ran out I would face the same accusations.

When you find yourself in a position where you are responsible for someone else, you cannot afford to not care or not show that you care.  When you are the cover for someone or a group of people you loose the freedom to think about self alone. If you insist on self, you should either be removed from over these people or they taken away from under you. However my concern today is not with people who do not care but with people who do yet do not seize the opportunity to express it. So many times we end up with great intentions in our minds and hearts. We play out all the amazing things we would like to do to show how much we appreciate loyalty but it always ends up being just intentions. All these big ideas and intentions sit in our heart for so long that we even begin to think everyone knows and sees them. No one can.

There is a story in the bible that gets me every time I read it. It’s about that widow who seemed to have given so little but yet it so much. I imagine that it was possible that she could have sat down in the corner looking at people give plenty and then say to herself “What will my little do?”. But she did not. She cared enough and understood that her little was actually much.  Whether it is a family you lead or an organization, make a conscious effort to show that you care. Little things are often big things. No one wants to follow someone who doesn’t care. People are willing to give their best to the ones who give their best to them. You have dreamt great things for 2013 now its time to manage those relationships that are central to your achieving them.

I hope this got you to PHINC!

Very true. And very well put. There is caring, and there is showing that you care. One should lead to the other but the two are not exactly the same as many of us trick ourselves into believing.

Care isn’t Love… You don’t have to be in love with something or someone to Care for it… That’s why its the most basic feeling and not as emotionally straining!

But still a lot of us lack Care of things and people around us!

Powerful awareness call ” Do You Care? “

Powerful piece bruv, i wish my former boss could read this. He assembled a good team but lost them because he failed to care for them. We never felt cared for and he keep giving the impression that all he cared about was gettin the job done at any cost, and all he owed us was a paycheck! I hope i never make the same mistake when i become a boss/leader too.
